Description
Bayfields Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century, with early and late 19th-century alterations. It features a mix of walling materials and has a tiled roof. The building includes a timber-framed hall with a cross-wing to the southwest and a Victorian wing to the northeast that connects to an early 19th-century stable block, all of which now serve as a residence.
The main front of the house, facing northwest, is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys and three windows. The roof is hipped at the north end and has gablets at each end, with two larger gables at the front. The upper walls and gables are tile-hung, featuring bands of fish scale tiles, while the lower walls are constructed of stonework. The windows include Victorian sashes and a small central casement. There is a 20th-century gabled porch with stone walls.
The southwest elevation of the cross-wing displays similar architectural features, which continue on the southeast gable. The rear of the house has an attached early 19th-century block with a hipped roof, similar walling, and Victorian sash and stone casement windows; its continuation to the east has rendered walls. The stable block is a two-storey rectangular structure with a half-hipped roof, stone walls with brick dressings, and casements, two of which have replaced former doorways.
