Boundary Walls And Gates To Arford House And Arford Lodge

The boundary walls and gates to Arford House and Arford Lodge are a series of structures dating from the early 19th century. The roadway in front of these buildings drops steeply and curves. On the west side, there is a high stone wall that runs alongside the narrow roadway. The entrance to Arford House features a wood gate with gate piers centered above it. To the east of this entrance, there is a low stone wall topped with a wrought-iron rail. In front of the stable yard, there is a wide opening with wooden gates, flanked by stone piers that have ball finials. Each side of this opening has a section of stone wall that ends in taller piers, also crowned by finials. On the west side, one pier connects to the section of rails, while on the east side, the wall turns at a right angle from the pier to meet the stable block.
