II

Early C18, early C20. Two storeys. Symmetrical front (south) with original centre of 7 windows and modern bow-fronted wings of 3. Hipped tile roof. Red brickwork in Flemish bond; centre has a tall parapet with coping stone and plastered panels above the windows, first and second-floor bands, rubbed flat arches, plinth. The wings have a lower parapet but repeat the other features. Sashes in exposed frames, the first-floor centre window is a Venetian window. C18 Tuscan porch, with a pediment, plain columns and fluted pilasters, on 3 steps; modern door. The rear of the centre comprises four 1/2-hipped gables, filled with brick-nogged timber-framing, the lower walls being in painted brickwork; the centre 2 bays have an open ground-floor, on wood columns. Leaded casements in oak frames. The modern rear wings end in hexagonal and octagonal pavilions, each with a conical thatched roof. Beyond is the moat, surrounding the site of the medieval structure.
