Description
Sherfield Court is an early 18th-century building with early 20th-century alterations, located in Sherfield on Loddon. It is two storeys high and features a symmetrical front (south) with an original centre of seven windows flanked by modern bow-fronted wings with three windows each. The building has a hipped tile roof and is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. The central section includes a tall parapet with coping stone and plastered panels above the windows, along with first and second-floor bands, rubbed flat arches, and a plinth. The wings have a lower parapet but replicate these features. The windows are sashes in exposed frames, with the first-floor centre window being a Venetian window.
There is a 18th-century Tuscan porch with a pediment, plain columns, and fluted pilasters, accessed by three steps, though it has a modern door. The rear of the central section consists of four half-hipped gables, featuring brick-nogged timber-framing, with the lower walls in painted brickwork. The central two bays have an open ground floor supported by wooden columns, and there are leaded casements in oak frames. The modern rear wings conclude with hexagonal and octagonal pavilions, each topped with a conical thatched roof. Surrounding the site is a moat, which marks the location of a medieval structure.
