Description

The Woolton Hill War Memorial, likely erected in the early 1920s by an unknown designer, is located outside the churchyard of St Thomas' Church, to the north-east of the Lych Gate. It features a tapering octagonal stone shaft that is moulded at the base, standing on an inscribed stone plinth with an octagonal shape. This plinth is raised on two high steps above two low steps. The inscription on the memorial honors the men of Woolton Hill who lost their lives in the Great War from 1914 to 1919, as well as those who fell in the World War from 1939 to 1945, with names listed. A carved stone wreath is attached to the center of the cross. The memorial is bordered to the south-east by wood and iron railings set on a brick base, while a wood and chain link fence to the north-east is not of special interest. The memorial is significant for its careful design and its role in commemorating the local men who served in both World Wars.
