Description

Copse Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1869, although it incorporates some features from the 18th century and likely has a small 18th-century core. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, accented with two bands of black bricks. It has a tiled roof featuring alternating courses of plain and fishscale tiles, along with terracotta ridge tiles, and includes two brick chimneystacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and has three windows.

The southwest front showcases two large gables adorned with fretted bargeboards that have pendants and finials. The attic storey features two pointed casement windows, while the first floor has three casement windows and the ground floor includes two three-light canted bay windows. The central doorcase presents an early 19th-century half-glazed door with Gothic lights, accompanied by a wooden porch that has fretted bargeboards, a finial, and pendants. There are also two casement windows on the side elevations.

On the rear elevation, there are three gables and a central brick and tiled porch. Inside, the kitchen contains an octagonally set brick bread oven and an adjoining fireplace with some original ironmongery. An elaborate early 18th-century wooden staircase features two turned balusters on each tread, scrolled tread ends, and fluted column newels, believed to have been salvaged from a nearby demolished house called Stargroves. Additionally, there are two early 18th-century wooden architraves for doors in the staircase wall that are also imported. The ground floor boasts a mid-19th-century marble fireplace with arched pilasters, while the first floor has two mid-19th-century wooden fire surrounds with iron fire baskets.
