Description

Nether Oakhurst is a timber-framed house, originally dating to the 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 18th, mid-19th, and modern periods. It is a 3½-bay building with a small 18th-century extension to the south and a modern outshot to the north. The house has one storey and an attic, with an irregular arrangement of windows. The roof is tiled, with a catslide slope to the rear, and includes a dormer on the front and three at the rear; the gables of the dormers have decorative bargeboards, with cills at eaves level. The timber frame is bricknogged in the north gable and the upper part of the front, while the rest of the walls are red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, incorporating blue headers and some cambered openings; the south gable is tile-hung. Casement windows are present throughout. The front door is plain, but a rear door is accessed via an open timber-framed porch with ornamental bargeboards to the gable. One brick within the construction is inscribed "RSH 1715." The main timber framing is visible.
