Description

Browns Farmhouse dates to the 16th century, with significant alterations in 1696 and the late 19th and 20th centuries. Originally a timber-framed building aligned east to west, it now features a large southward extension which forms the main body of the house. Single-storey additions are present at the rear. The roof is tiled, with a grooved chimney and a tapered brick stack attached to the south gable. The south side of the house is red brick in English bond, with rubbed flat arches, a first-floor band, and a moulded plinth. A moulded verge and eaves band, repeated above a narrow two-storeyed porch, runs along the south gable. The older part of the building exhibits early 19th-century Flemish bond brickwork with blue headers. Casement windows are visible. The porch retains an upper window and a dated brick (1696) in its gable, although the original doorway has been replaced by a window. Other entrances are located within the more modern sections of the house.
