Description
Oak Cottage is an early 17th-century cottage with alterations from the mid-19th century, located on High Street in Ecchinswell and Sydmonton. The front (west) of the cottage presents a near-symmetrical facade with two windows, and has extensions on both sides. The roof is thatched, with tiled surrounds to dormers. The dormers feature ornamental bargeboards, half-timbered gables, brick cheeks, and cills projecting from brackets at eaves level. A central stack rises prominently. The construction is a timber frame with brick nogging, and the extensions are boarded. Casement windows are present. A boarded door is set within a solid frame. The rear elevation includes a single-storeyed timber-framed extension in the centre and a small, high dormer. Within the south-side extension, the original south wall retains brickwork in English bond with a plinth at its lower part.
