STRATFIELD TURGIS Milestone on A33 at NGR 695 592

Milestone. Circa early C19. Stone. Semi-circular on plan with slanting top inscribed Southampton 36, and on the front Reading 10 and Basingstoke 6. The Basingstoke and Reading Turnpike was opened in 1718, and this is one of a series of milestones on the turnpike. A good example of a circa early C19 milestone with a legible inscription.
