Description

This milestone, located on the A33 in Chineham, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of stone and has a semi-circular shape with a slanting top. The front is inscribed with "Reading 13" and "Basingstoke 3," while the top reads "Southampton 33." This milestone is part of a series along the Basingstoke and Reading Turnpike, which was opened in 1718. It is a well-preserved example of an early 19th-century milestone with a clear inscription.
