Description

Milestone located on Reading Road, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of stone and has a semi-circular shape with a slanting top. The top is inscribed with "Southampton 35," while the front displays "Reading 11" and "Basingstoke 5." This milestone is part of a series along the Basingstoke and Reading Turnpike, which was opened in 1718. It is a good example of an early 19th-century milestone with a clear inscription.
