HELLINGLY HACKHURST LANE (north east side, off) Hawkridge Cottage at Perrylands Farm

Cottage. c1800 and shown on 1817 map. Red brick in Flemish bond or stretcher bond with south elevation mainly tile-hung, roof hipped to north and with external brick stack to south. 2 storeys; l window, mainly triple metal leaded lights with cambered architrave. Doorcase in set back lean-to extension erected after 1874 to north. INTERIOR: brick paved ground floor, open fireplace with wooden lintel and adjoining wooden cupboards, square brick copper and ceramic sink, straight flight staircase and timber partitions to upper floors. Roof has clasped purlins, collar beam and ridgepiece with some renewed rafters. South wall has brickwork of c1800 and the building therefore seems to be a complete building, not half of a pair. A type of agricultural labourer's cottage which is becoming rare with unusually complete interior.
