Description
Broad Farmhouse is a notable house built in 1753 by J Calverley, originally the home of the Calverley family. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring five windows and two gabled dormers. The three central window bays project forward and are topped with a pediment that includes a circular rusticated window in the tympanum. The façade is faced with grey headers, complemented by red brick quoins on the central projection and both sides of the wings. A painted stringcourse and a wooden modillion eaves cornice add to the architectural detail, while the hipped tiled roof completes the structure. The windows are set in moulded wooden surrounds with intact glazing bars. The central first-floor window is adorned with a cornice on console brackets, displaying the date 1753 and the initials J C. The doorway features fluted Doric pilasters, is flanked by sidelights, and is edged with red brick quoins topped by a triglyph frieze. Above the doorway is a curved pediment and a door with six fielded panels. The sides of the house are faced with red brick, and at the back, there are small one-storey wings that project to the north and south.
