Description

This is an 18th-century house of considerable size, located on the north side of High Street. It is two storeys high with a five-window front. The house is constructed of painted brick and features a string course, cornice, and parapet. The roof is tiled. A doorway in the centre is distinguished by fluted Doric pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a projecting cornice, topped by a rectangular fanlight and an eight-panelled moulded door. A second doorway, located at the east end, has a broken pediment and a fluted architrave. A projecting wing at the rear of the house is likely older than the main front. The building is part of a group that includes numbers 6, 7, 7A, 9 to 17 (consecutive), gate piers, the Old Coach House, a gazebo in the garden of number 11, and the Rye Working Men’s Conservative Club.
