Description
The Rye Working Men's Conservative Club, originally Peacock's School, was built in 1636. It is constructed of red brick and features five bays that are divided by high pilasters standing on high pedestals with stone bases, brick capitals, and an entablature. Above this, there is a high parapet with three dormer windows, which are surrounded by a heightened parapet with pediments. The center dormer has a curved and broken pediment with an oval window placed vertically in a recessed panel, which replaced a sundial that was removed around 1900. The building has casement windows with small square leaded panes and a passage through the house at the east end. At the west end, there is a contemporary wooden door with twelve divisions. This building is scheduled as an ancient monument. It forms a group with Nos 6, 7, 7A, and Nos 9 to 17, the Gate Piers, The Old Coach House, and a gazebo in the garden of No 11.
