Description

104 and 104A High Street is a late 18th century or early 19th century house and shop, featuring an impressive contemporary shop front. The property includes a later 19th century house on East Street. The earlier house on High Street has three storeys, with two windows facing north on High Street and one window facing east on East Street, connected by a rounded corner that has an additional window. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a parapet.

The shop front, which serves a chemist established in 1787, features a large bay that curves around the corner into East Street. To the west on High Street, there is a bow window of the same height, both windows retaining their original glazing bars. The bowed entablature includes a dentil cornice and architrave, extending to the west of the central doorway, although the window beneath is from the later 19th century. The shop front and central doorway are flanked by columns, and the three doorways have semi-circular fanlights, with the main doorway also featuring margin lights.

The later 19th century building on East Street is made of painted brick and has two storeys, with a curved central brick bow containing three windows on each floor. There are three additional windows, all with arched heads. The doorway has glazed side panels, slender pilasters, and a fanlight.
