Description
These are two early 19th-century buildings forming part of a wider group of listed buildings on Wellington Square. They are constructed of stucco with a rusticated ground floor. A parapet runs along the top, with the central four bays featuring a wide segmental pediment containing decoration within the tympanum. Smaller scrolled pediments top the end bays, each with acroteria containing shell niches. Rectangular recessed panels are incorporated into the parapet. Above the ground floor, the facades are pilastered, with a prominent cornice above the second floor and a string course running horizontally. The buildings extend over five storeys plus a basement. They are six windows wide, with two windows per bay. The second and third floors have sash windows with glazing bars, though the glazing bars have been removed from the second-floor windows of number 43. The second floor windows are set within moulded architraves. The first floor features recessed, large, bowed French casements with glazing bars, accompanied by bowed balconies. These balconies are linked together and supported by brackets with decorative cast iron balustrades, slender columns, and tent-shaped roofs with cornices. The ground floor has wide, elliptically arched three-light sash windows and round-headed doorways with fanlights and moulded, panelled doors. The property also includes basement area railings.
