Description
Nos 5 and 6 Albert Road are early 19th-century buildings with a stuccoed front and painted brick sides. They have a slate hipped roof and rise to four storeys. The facade is two windows wide, with the right-hand window featuring plain architraves and keyblocks, and sashes without glazing bars. The first floor has a modern French casement window inserted on the left. The ground floor has a large late Victorian shop front, which includes two wide canted plate glass shop windows, an off-centre doorway, and a projecting fascia with a blind case.
The left-hand return facing Russell Street is painted brick and also four storeys high, with five windows featuring segmental brick arches. Most of the sashes here have glazing bars, and the ground floor has a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight and moulded eaves. The right-hand return is four storeys tall with four windows in plain architraves, sashes that have vertical glazing bars only, and an off-centre round-headed doorway with a keyblock, plain architrave, semi-circular fanlight, and a flush-panelled door.
Nos 5 and 6, along with Nos 6 to 20 (even) Russell Street, form a group, with Nos 14 to 20 (even) Russell Street being of local interest only.
