Description

Nos 37 and 38 on St John's Street are late 18th century buildings that rise three storeys with an attic, finished in colour washed stucco. They feature a slightly projecting central bay and fluted pilasters on either side, which were likely originally full height but have been shortened due to the shop front. The hipped slate roof has a moulded eaves cornice that is broken forward over the central bay. There are two sash dormers and five sash windows on the upper floors, all with intact glazing bars set in moulded frames. The ground floor has a mid-19th century shop front framed by pilasters, with round headed plate glass lights in the shop windows. To the right of the shop front, there is a door also framed by pilasters, with the upper part glazed and square bottom panels. A large fascia and blind case extend across the first-floor windows. Nos 23 to 41, along with part of the National Westminster Old Bank in Market Place, create a notable group.
