Description

The Cupola is a detached villa built around 1835 by the architect Joseph Kay for himself. It is designed in a romantic Italianate style and features painted stucco. The building has two storeys, except for the south-west corner where a partly attached octagonal structure rises above the slate roof to create a belvedere, which is accented by slim angle pilasters. The ground floor of this bay includes a trellis verandah and a canopy over the first-floor windows. The left-hand return has two bays with a canopy over the ground floor window, while the right-hand return is one bay wide. The elevations are adorned with bands and pilasters, and all original casements have glazing bars. The chimneys are grouped around a square tower.
