Description
Belmont House, also known as The Cottage, was built around 1835 by Joseph Kay. This detached villa features a romantic design reminiscent of Nash's Park Village. The exterior is finished in white painted stucco, topped with a slate hipped roof that has wide bracketed eaves. The building is two storeys high and three bays wide. The south-west front showcases a central canted bay with ground floor French windows and a first floor that is recessed to accommodate a balcony around the bay window, which is adorned with a balustrade. All windows are either casements or French windows with original glazing bars and Venetian shutters. Atop the roof is a square tower with three arched windows and chimneys rising from the corners. The property also includes a garden retaining wall to the west, constructed of coursed stone with a moulded course at garden level and rounded stone coping, as the garden and house are situated above road level.
