Description
This drinking fountain, dated 1873, is located to the north of 'Ronaldsway' on Gillsman's Hill in St Leonards on Sea. It is a Gothic style structure made of sandstone, standing about nine feet high, nine feet wide, and five feet deep. The fountain features a gabled sandstone roof with coping and kneelers, as well as a pointed arch. Inside, there is a Medieval style pink granite lion's head waterspout that discharges spring water into a cantilevered pink granite bowl. The water drains through cast iron grilles set slightly below the existing floor level. There are small niches on each side that likely held drinking vessels.
