Description
The ornamental drinking fountain, built around 1928, is designed in the Neo-Tudor style and is located to the north-east of Aldwick Hundred. It is made of red brick laid in either Flemish or header bond, featuring a stone drinking fountain with sandstone arches and a tiled roof.
The fountain has a symmetrical curved retaining wall that includes a central water spout over a basin. The retaining wall is constructed from small bricks in Flemish bond, topped with a tiled roof that is higher and gabled in the center, finishing with gables that have wooden barge-boards at the ends. The central section features a full-height, round-headed alcove, lined with header bond brickwork, which houses a stone dolphin water spout positioned above a large stone clam shell. This clam shell is supported by a stone heron and is flanked by two curved stone steps. On either side of the central alcove are narrow sandstone Tudor pedestrian arches, and the wall concludes with piers beneath the gable ends.
