Description

Riches Turpins is a house, now divided into two houses, dating from the late 16th century with some modern additions. It is two storeys high, constructed of brick, and has an old tile gabled roof. The south front features three gables, with one chimney on the ridge between the two left-hand gables and another at the right-hand end. Both chimneys are rectangular and have diagonal pilasters, with offset heads that extend around the heads of the pilasters. The two right-hand gables have a string course at the first floor level. Each gable contains one bay, with an additional bay situated between the right and centre gables. The windows are three-light leaded, with those on the ground floor set in painted moulded wood frames, and some lights retain their original fastenings. There are plain shutters on the ground floor windows of the left and centre gables.

The east front features a timber-framed gable with brick infilling to the left, a central timber-framed gable that projects, and a 20th-century extension to the right. A 20th-century lean-to porch spans the ground floor to the left, which is rendered. The original building was T-shaped, with the gabled wing at the rear being taller. The west front has a hipped end of the main block to the right, a 20th-century entrance at an angle, and a 20th-century extension to the left. Inside, many timbers of the original frame are exposed, with chamfers and stops on the joists of the ground floor and the central first-floor room.
