Description

Timbers and Shangles is a house, now divided into two houses, dating from the 16th or 17th century. It features a timber frame on a brick sill, with roughcast and 19th-century Gault brick facing on the ground floor front, and red brick with flint at the southern end. The building has a steep old red tile half-hipped roof, with a dark weatherboarded rear wing to the southeast (Timbers) and a southern gable upper part with a steep slate roof.

The structure is two storeys tall, with a cellar and attic, and follows a three-cell internal chimney plan, facing west. The west front has three windows on each floor and a door near the right-hand corner. The southern part (Timbers) features a flush three-light window on each floor, with a casement above, a Yorkshire sliding casement below, and a four-panel flush-beaded door. The northern part (Shangles) has two two-light Yorkshire sliding casements on the first floor, along with two small canted bay windows that have small-paned sash windows and plastered aprons.

There is an external gable chimney on the northern side and an entrance with a six-panel, raised and fielded door that is accessed by two steps, topped with a moulded hood on a shaped bracket.
