Description
The Old Posting House is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 18th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick infilling and an old tiled roof that is gabled at both ends. The building has a T-plan layout, with a single-storey range of late 18th-century outbuildings positioned at right angles to the road front on the left side. These outbuildings have thin framing and a roof that is part slate and part tile.
The road front of the cottage is two storeys high and consists of two timber-framed bays. The left bay includes two arch braces, one three-light 20th-century casement window, and an insurance plaque on the first floor. The ground floor has a two-light 19th-century wooden casement window with small panes, and there is a chimney on the left side of the east gable. A 19th-century entrance door is located in a lean-to porch at the corner where the extension joins the main building. The right bay features a large painted brick chimney that tapers at the first-floor level into a single flue. Inside, the complete timber frame is visible, with the joists in the principal rooms being chamfered with stop ends.
