Description
Nos. 51 and 53 on Denmark Street is a house that has been converted into print works. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century, extensions in the 19th century, and further changes in the mid-20th century. The building has a timber frame that is encased in painted render, with some of the frame visible on the north gable. It features an old tile gabled roof and is designed in an L-shape, originally consisting of three by two framed bays, now with rear extensions. The structure is two storeys high with attics. There is a smaller chimney on the right side and a larger chimney with an offset head on the rear roof slope. The building has a black painted plinth and a four-bay front. On the first floor, there are sash windows, while the ground floor has one sash window and a door on the left, and an early 19th-century shop window and door on the right. Access to the doors is via two steps. Inside, most of the timber frame is visible, with some principal beams being chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. The joists are mostly thin, and the roof features side purlins. There is a large fireplace and a bread oven, although these are now covered up.
