Description

Windsor and Eton Central Station, built around 1890-1897, is a large terminus station set back from the road. It features a pedimented Dutch gable above the concourse entrance, which has a broad segmental glazed girder roof. The main station block, located to the right, is constructed of deep red brick and is two to three storeys high, set at an obtuse angle with a steep French hipped roof over a slightly projecting western end bay. The glazed roof extends down to the first floor, which has pedimented windows, while the ground floor is arcaded with windows. There are three long platforms with a single-storey range of refreshment rooms to the north. To the southwest of the platform is a large segmental glazed girder shed supported by cast iron columns, covering a broad drive.

Adjacent to this area is a former Royal Waiting Room, which is a single-storey structure made of Bath stone ashlar with canted ends, highlighted by pilasters, a cornice, and a parapet. It features single and tripartite windows with curved voided corners, and segmental pedimented plaques with Royal Crowns flanking the entrance. The interior includes a suite of two rooms, with one being top-lit by a dome, and features elaborate fireplace surrounds, overmantels, and rich carved mouldings; it is currently used as a store.
