Description

Nos 135 and 136 Peascod Street comprise a High Victorian building dated 1866, with modern shop fronts on the ground floor. The front elevation is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and some patterned brickwork, designed in a symmetrical, restrained Venetian style. Sill courses are present on the upper floors, along with moulded impost strings. The frieze has a moulded bed with plain, capped triglyphs and a projecting moulded eaves cornice. There are four windows to each of the 1st and 2nd floors, featuring round headed brick voussoir arches with pointed stone arches above, containing delicate floral and scroll carving. The central pair of windows have linked arches, flanked by roundels and small carved panels. The 2nd floor windows are coupled and tripled, with round headed brick voussoir arches rising from carved leaf imposts. Projecting sills are present, with the central group’s sill being particularly prominent and featuring a cast iron flower guard.
