Description

BRAY CONINGSBY LANE SU 97 NW (east side) Fifield 10/17 Stables at Grove Farm, 12.12.88 approximately 45 metres north of Grove Farmhouse G.V. II

Stables, new part cottage, part disused. Late C16, altered C19 and late C20. Part timber framed encased with brick and part weatherboard on south west, brick infill on north east. Old tile gabled roof. Rectangular plan of 10 framed bays, including 3 framed bays now used as cottage. 2 storeys. South-west front: weatherboarded first floor, brick ground floor. Cottage section on left with C20 wooden casement windows: three 2-light windows on first floor, one 4-light, one 2- light and one 3-light window on ground floor; C20 part glazed door between 2- and 3-light windows; wooden garage doors under fourth window on first floor. Right hand section irregular. 2 stable doors, two window openings between, door on right has hay loading door over, one window opening to right of this. Interior : large plain joists, 2 moulded principal team, 2 other principal team with chamfers and lamb tongue stops. Queen post roof with clasped purlins and curved braces. A 3- bay C19 brick extension adjoining on the right at a lower roof height is of no special interest.
