Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a hall house, dating from the early 15th century, with alterations and extensions from the late 16th century and early 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with some painted render and painted brick infill, and has an old tile gabled roof. It comprises a rectangular plan of four framed bays, including a two-bay hall, a one-bay pent roof extension to the rear, and a 20th-century extension on the right end. The two-storey front has a largely 20th-century appearance, with diamond-leaded casement windows. On the west front, there are two two-light windows to the left of the entrance, and a single four-light window to the right. A small, non-historic garage is attached at a right angle to the right end. The north gable features a late 16th-century oriel window on the first floor, with three lights and a single light on the returns, modern glazing, diamond mullions, and a moulded cill on carved wooden brackets. Below the oriel is a 20th-century three-light window. Inside, the dining room contains an early 17th-century corner cupboard with scalloped shelves, a panelled head, and a dado; it also has a moulded cornice. The sitting room features a large inglenook fireplace. The roof timbers show signs of soot, with arched braced collar trusses and a redundant crown post truss, along with side purlins.
