Description

Old Beams Cottage is a row of three cottages dating from the mid 17th century and late 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages feature a combination of timber framing with render and brick infill, painted brick, and painted roughcast. They have an old tiled gabled roof and are two storeys high.

On the front roof slope to the left, there is a large chimney with an offset head and tall clay pots. The northwest front shows No. 45, which is symmetrical and has three bays, with three-light casement windows that have bars and segmental heads on the ground floor. The central entrance door is plain with a small glazed panel.

No. 46 features one two-light casement with glazing bars on the first floor and a three-light casement in a projecting bay on the ground floor to the right of a plain entrance door, similar to No. 45. No. 47 has two- and three-light casements on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the left of a plain entrance door. No. 48, located on the left and featuring a gablet, has a small three-light casement on the first floor and a two-light casement below, both with glazing bars.

The return gable of No. 48 on the northeast side has exposed timber framing, with a one-light and a two-light casement, both with glazing bars. There is also a gabled extension on the left with a lean-to porch and a half-glazed entrance door.
