Description

Nos 1 to 6, Claremont Road are a group of three pairs of houses dating from circa 1840-50. The houses are three storeys high with basements. The facades are stuccoed on rendered ground floors, with Nos 5 and 6 retaining grooving. Each front has a slight central break, featuring a single window. First floor sill courses are present. The windows are marginal glazed sashes, with tripartite windows on the ground floor, each with cornices; consoles are present on the cornices of Nos 5 and 6, along with ornate iron flower guards. Architraves surround the single sashes on the upper floors. Recessed one-window entrance bays have pilastered porches in antis. The roofs are slate, hipped, with flat eaves and long brackets, particularly prominent on Nos 5 and 6. The buildings are included on the list for group value, forming a group with Nos 1 to 10 (consec), Nos 1 to 23 (consec) and Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Place.
