Description

No 18 on The Broadway is an early 19th-century refronting of an older building that was formerly part of the Pelican Inn, which is related to No 20 on The Broadway. The building has two storeys and features dormers, with a tile roof and a stucco front that includes a parapet. There are two flat-topped sash dormers with glazing bars and architraved sash windows on the first floor, also with glazing bars. The ground floor has a modern shop front. At the west end, there is a carriageway entrance that leads to the former inn yard. A print from around 1825 shows that the current building was part of a uniform five-window range that included the site of No 16.
