  1. Circa 1734. Nos 23 and 26 were developed im similar style by John Carey, and became part of the Bear Inn. Three storeys. Two windows. Double-pile plan with hipped and gabled tile roof at rear. Tall brick stacks with moulded caps. Multi- coloured stock brick. Brick dentil cornice and parapet, returning at west end. Moulded string at 2nd floor level breaking forward over 1st floor windows. Gauged flat red brick arches to flush framed sash windows with exposed boxing and glazing bars. Modern restaurant front to ground floor. After the closure of the Bear Inn (before 1768), No 26, became part of Gales Speenhamland Brewery, and from 1802-circa 1930 part of the Brewers House of Adnam's Brewery.
