Description
5 The Broadway is a mid-18th century building, originally known as Nos 4, 5, and 5a Broadway, which was refronted in the early 19th century. The structure has two storeys and dormers, featuring a tiled mansard roof with brick gable stacks. The front is made of red brick and has a brick dentil eaves cornice. The modern flat-topped dormers have casement windows. The building includes gauged flat red brick arches over flush framed sash windows, which have exposed boxing and glazing bars. A modern shop front is present on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a two-storey range with four windows and two hipped dormers. This section is constructed of painted brick and has a brick dentil band at the first-floor level. The first floor features three-light segmental arched windows with plain mullions and some leaded lights, while the ground floor has a four-light mullioned window. The rear also includes a segmental arched doorway.
