Description
The pedestrian gate and piers to Chilton Lodge, located 300 metres east of the main entrance, date from the late 18th century. The structure features stone gate piers and iron gates. The piers are thin and square, with moulded bases and corniced caps topped by lions that stand with their front feet on scrolls. The faces of the piers, which face the road, are intricately carved with panels depicting fruit and flowers that fall from lion masks. There is also a moulded stone step. The gates are made of delicate wrought iron and include an overthrow.
