Description
Yew Tree Thatch is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with later additions from the late 17th century, 19th century, and 20th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and some weatherboarding, topped by a hipped thatched roof. The building has three bays running north to south, with the central bay being the original cottage and the outer bays serving as extensions, including an outshut to the west. It is one and a half storeys tall, with two-light dormers on the east side that have thatch swept around the center. There is a ridge chimney located to the north of the central bay. The east elevation is irregular, featuring two single-light casements in the left bay, a two-light casement to the right of the center bay, and a boarded door to the left of the center bay in the right bay. Inside, there is a large fireplace that includes a bread oven, a hearth oven, a spit rack, and a pot jack. The cottage is noted for its socio-historical significance as a rare and little altered example of a one bay cottage.
