Description
Dun Mill Lock is located on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Hungerford. This structure, which dates from the late 18th century, is integrated with Dun Mill Bridge and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It features a brick chamber with brick and stone coping, and stone quoins at the gate recesses. The lock has two sets of double wooden gates; the top gates are equipped with mechanical ground paddle gearing, while the bottom gates utilize hydraulic gate paddle gearing. The Kennet and Avon Canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810, with John Rennie serving as the principal engineer.
