Description
Church Lock and accommodation bridge is a canal lock, numbered 64, on the Kennet and Avon Canal, built around 1799 under the direction of chief engineer John Rennie. The lock is constructed of brick with stone copings and features timber gates. The upper gates are equipped with ground paddles and there is an inset ladder in the lock. The lower gates have gear for gate paddles, and both sets of gates were restored in 1981. Below the lower gate is an accommodation bridge, which has bullnosed 330mm brick rings, a two-course string, and a parapet with flush round brick copings. The bridge is designed with a splayed plan.
