Description
Bitterne Manor is a manor house that dates from the 13th century, located on the site of the Roman port of Clausentum. It was originally a residence for the Bishops of Winchester. The building underwent significant restoration in 1864, was damaged during the Second World War, and was later reconstructed using old materials. It is two storeys high and constructed from stone rubble, featuring gable ends. The roof is modern and covered with tiles, and there are five modern dormers. The facade includes six modern mullioned and transomed windows, along with a modern doorcase that has a four-centred archway, which is topped by a datestone from 1952. On the left side, there is a 13th-century blank lancet window and a section of rough rubble walling. The interior of the building is modern.
