Description

The remains of the Priory of St Denys are located in the back gardens of Nos 1 and 2 Priory Avenue, St Denys. The priory was founded by Henry I for Austin Canons around 1124. It was rebuilt after being damaged by the French during a raid on Southampton in 1338 and was dissolved in 1536. The only surviving structure is a 14th-century section of a wall made of stone rubble, measuring about 25 feet in length and 20 feet in height, which features a pointed archway. This site is scheduled as an ancient monument.
