Description

The Weigh House Vault, located under the playground of St John's School, is a medieval vault likely dating from the end of the 14th century. It is thought to have originally served as a shop in the front part of the undercroft. The vault features an elliptical shape and is constructed from dressed stone, with an ashlar course at the springing level. It has a door with a 4-centred head and stone benches set in the side recesses. The vault is also scheduled as an ancient monument.
