Description
The Guildhall in Blakeney is a 15th-century building, originally two stories tall, although only the undercroft remains today. It is constructed of flint and brick with ashlar dressings. The east side features three rectangular window openings and a moulded arch doorway at the north end. Inside, there is a two by four bay vaulted space with brick ribbed vaults supported by octagonal stone piers. Pointed head niches are present in the side walls, and a projection on the south-east corner contains a garderobe chute. Although traditionally referred to as the Guildhall, its original use is not known; it may have served as a merchant's house when Blakeney was a port and fish market during the Middle Ages.
