Description
The wall between Forbury Road and Abbott's Walk, located to the west of St James's Church, is a Grade II listed structure, likely built around 1840 or 1855. It is constructed from flint with Bath stone ashlar piers of varying heights. The panels opposite the west front of St James's Church feature 12th-century fragments of carving and architectural decoration. The wall concludes with a small gate leading to Abbott's Walk, which has an arch made of re-used voussoirs and chevron capitals from the 12th century, topped with a stepped parapet. Additionally, fragments of a Norman Abbey can be found in the wall to the west of St James's School playground.
