Description
No. 9 Eldon Square is a detached Italianate building dating from around 1840. It features two-storey wings flanking a three-storey central section and has a basement. The exterior is made of Bath stone ashlar, with the ground floor having a channelled finish. There is a cill string on the first floor of the wings and a modillion cornice with a blocking course; the centre has a plain cornice with a high parapet. The building has three bays of glazing bar sashes, with the central first-floor window featuring a shallow relief plain pediment. The outer ground floor windows are tripartite with stone mullions and have bracketed pediments set in slight recesses. The central doorway is flanked by pilasters and features a projecting gabled porch with an arched entrance. The left-hand return has a pedimented break, as does the right side, although the latter is only four feet from the side wall of No. 11. There are end piers to the front garden that are similar to those found in the area. The roof is hidden and made of slate, with ashlar chimneys that have moulded capping.
