Description

The railings to the George V Memorial Garden, dating from around 1840, are located in Eldon Square. The garden is enclosed on three sides by Eldon Road and Eldon Square. The railings are made of cast iron and feature mushroom-capped rails with ball-capped standards and scrolled stanchions. The corner piers are constructed from Bath stone, with chamfered corners that are stopped at the base, and have moulded capping topped with crenellation. There are similar gate piers to the east and west, as well as in the Eldon Square area. The gardens also contain a very large marble statue of the 1st Marquess of Reading, who died in 1935.
