Description
No. 391 on Old Commercial Road is a house that has been converted into a museum store. It dates from the late 18th century and features a stucco exterior. The building has a plain tile hipped roof with rendered stacks on both the left and right sides. It stands two stories tall with an attic and is arranged in five bays, with a 2:1:2 configuration.
At the center, there are four stone steps leading up to a recessed six-fielded panel door, with the top two panels cut away and fitted with leaded glass. The door is surrounded by a moulded architrave. On either side of the entrance, there are two two-storey bow window bays, each containing two curved 16-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors. These windows are framed by stucco moulded architraves, cornices, and parapets.
On the first floor, there is a two-leaf margin glazed French casement door with a margin glazed overlight, set within a moulded architrave. This door opens onto a slate balcony that is supported by shaped iron brackets and features anthemion pattern iron guard railings. The building also has a dormer with a curved roof and paired 8-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
