Description

The Willen War Memorial Obelisk is an approximately 2.5-meter tall structure located on the lawn outside the Grade II-listed Wall and Gates of the Grade I-listed Church of St Mary Magdalene, in front of the Grade II-listed School House and Brook Farmhouse. This memorial takes the form of a square obelisk made from rough-hewn grey granite. It stands on a chamfered pedestal and base.

On the front face of the pedestal, there is a panel that features an inscription in applied metal lettering, which reads: "1914 + 1919/ IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ (3 NAMES)." The names are listed along with the rank and service, regiment, or corps of the individuals commemorated.
