Description

Cleobury Farmhouse is a brick farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the later 20th century. It is situated on the main historic crossroads in the village, opposite the listed Manor House.

The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof. It has three bays and two storeys plus an attic. The front facade is formal and well-built, featuring a central door set within a doorcase of panelled pilasters, a frieze and cornice, and a segmental pediment above. Symmetrically arranged windows, one on either side of the door and three on the first floor, originally used sash windows, which were later replaced by side-hung casements. The rear facade has a more traditional appearance and retains its original three-, four- and five-light side-hung casements. A one- and two-storey brick extension is attached to the left side of the property, the date of which is unknown but believed to be relatively recent. A large brick porch in the centre of the rear facade, added in the late 20th century, is not of historic interest.

The interior follows an irregular double-pile plan, with a narrow central hall and rooms to either side at the front and rear. The original staircase rises through the house to the third, attic, storey. Much of the original woodwork survives, including six-panelled doors and cupboards flanking the chimney breast in the front dining room. Similar woodwork is present on the second and attic floors. Two probably 18th century doors within the original left gable wall confirm that the current extension replaced an earlier structure. Original fireplaces have been lost, but cellars are located beneath the full depth of the property.
